IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON NIGERIAN SOCIETY PRESENTS “TAKING THE GIANT LEAP”

The event is the organisation’s 2nd Annual symposium themed “Overcoming the challenges to Nigeria’s economic prosperity”

Date: 18th October 2013

Time: 2pm

Venue: Great Hall, Imperial College London

The theme for the 2nd Annual Symposium, “Taking the Giant Leap; Overcoming the Challenges to Nigeria’s Economic Prosperity,” stems from the success of the maiden edition as pertinent questions were raised from the interactive audience consi…sting of Imperial College Students and students from other universities in the UK. The role of Nigerian youths all over the world can’t be better espoused at this stage of our dear nation as she aims to be one of the most developed economies in the world by 2020.
The Imperial College Nigerian Society therefore deems necessary to further explore emerging realities in respect of this in our dear country. Moreover, several programmes and initiatives such as the “Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria” (YouWin) and the Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Development programme aimed at encouraging and supporting business ideas have been instituted.
Despite this, Nigeria still has a high rate of unemployment estimated at 38% for the 15-24 age group according to the 2011 Annual Socio-Economic Report by the African Economic Outlook. This symposium therefore seeks to analyse these realities and also proffer solutions to unlocking the enormous human capital that Nigeria is blessed with as she seeks to break the barrier of underdevelopment.
Our target for the symposium includes Nigerian and non-Nigerian students alike studying at Imperial College, London, Nigerian students from other UK universities, members of the corporate and business society in the UK and the general public
